ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)FAQs
Are there extra costs for ICSI?
Yes. ICSI usually carries an additional laboratory fee on top of standard IVF costs.
Some of this may be rebated by Medicare for eligible patients
Out-of-pocket costs will be outlined in your financial consent before treatment
The clinic will provide a clear breakdown so you can make an informed decision.
How is ICSI different from standard IVF?
The key difference is how fertilisation occurs:
Conventional IVF – Eggs are placed in a dish with many motile sperm and fertilisation happens “naturally” in the lab environment
ICSI – An embryologist injects a single sperm directly into each mature egg under a microscope
ICSI is particularly useful when sperm numbers, movement or shape are reduced, or when there has been previous fertilisation failure.
