General FAQs
Can I receive treatment if I have existing health conditions?
Yes. Many people undergoing fertility treatment also have other medical conditions (for example thyroid disease, endometriosis, PCOS, high blood pressure or autoimmune conditions).
At your first consultation, Dr Mackenzie-Proctor will review your medical history, medications and test results in detail. Where needed, she may liaise with your GP or other specialists so that your fertility care is safe, coordinated and tailored to you. A treatment plan will only be recommended once any medical risks have been considered and optimised.
Where do I collect my fertility medication?
After your consultation, you’ll receive detailed instructions about:
Which medications you’ll be using
When to start them
Which pharmacy options are available
You’ll be able to collect your medication from experienced pharmacies familiar with fertility treatments, and delivery options are often available for patients within metropolitan Melbourne and surrounds. All of this will be clearly explained in your treatment plan and written information.
How do I organise pathology tests?
You’ll be given pathology request forms and clear written instructions (including whether fasting is needed and timing within your cycle, if relevant).
You can attend:
The preferred pathology provider used by Dr Mackenzie-Proctor’s clinic, or
Another accredited pathology collection centre that is convenient for you
Results are sent directly to the clinic so they can be reviewed and discussed with you at your appointment or via Telehealth.
Are my eggs, sperm and embryos safe?
Protecting eggs, sperm and embryos is a core priority.
Dr Mackenzie-Proctor works only with accredited IVF laboratories that follow strict regulatory, safety and quality standards, including:
24/7 monitoring of storage tanks and laboratory conditions
Multiple identity checks at every step
Carefully controlled freezing and storage protocols
These systems are designed to maximise safety and give you peace of mind throughout treatment and storage.
Can I contact the clinic if I have questions during treatment?
Absolutely. You are not expected to remember everything from one consultation.
During your cycle you’ll be supported by a team that can be contacted by phone or email for:
Clarification about medications or instructions
New symptoms or concerns
Emotional support and next-step planning
If something is urgent or complex, your query can be escalated for medical review.
How do I book an appointment with Dr Rebecca Mackenzie-Proctor?
You can book by:
Asking your GP to send a referral (for Medicare rebates)
Contacting our clinic directly via phone, email or online enquiry form
Once your referral is received, the team will help you arrange an appointment time that suits you – either in person or via Telehealth.
Is fertility preservation only for women?
No. Fertility preservation is for anyone who wants to protect their future reproductive options.
Examples include:
Women and people with ovaries - egg or embryo freezing
Men and people with testes - sperm freezing
Individuals about to undergo medical treatments (e.g. chemotherapy, pelvic surgery or gender-affirming treatments) that may impact fertility
Dr Mackenzie-Proctor can discuss options for both partners and for individuals.
What are the parking and access options?
Clinic locations are chosen with ease of access in mind, including proximity to public transport and parking options such as nearby car parks and local street parking.
When you book, you’ll be provided with:
Public transport options
The most convenient parking choices for that location
This information is also included in appointment confirmation emails.
Can I get a Medicare rebate for Telehealth appointments?
In most cases, yes. Medicare rebates are available for eligible Telehealth consultations when referral and criteria are met.
The clinic team will:
Confirm your eligibility
Explain potential out-of-pocket costs
Help you understand any difference between initial and review consultations
Will I receive the same level of care via Telehealth as in person?
Yes. Telehealth consultations are conducted to the same clinical standard as face-to-face appointments.
Through Telehealth, Dr Mackenzie-Proctor can:
Take a detailed history
Review test results and imaging
Explain diagnoses and treatment options
Arrange prescriptions, referrals and follow-up tests
If an examination or procedure is needed, you’ll be booked for an in-person visit.
What if I need a physical examination?
If a physical examination is important for diagnosis or planning:
This will be clearly explained during your Telehealth consult
An in-clinic appointment will be arranged at a suitable time
Examination findings will then be combined with your history and investigations to refine your treatment plan.
