Donor Eggs & Donor Sperm
Creating pathways to parenthood with ethical, compassionate, evidence-based care
Dr Rebecca Mackenzie-Proctor proudly supports individuals and couples building their families with donor eggs, donor sperm, and donor embryos. Donor conception is a deeply personal and empowering path, and our role is to guide you through every step with clarity, safety, and empathy.
All donor services are delivered in accordance with NHMRC guidelines, Victorian Department of Health legislation, and RTAC standards. We ensure donors, recipients, and donor-conceived children are treated with dignity, transparency, and lifelong respect.
What Are Donor Services?
Donor services involve using gametes (eggs or sperm) from another individual to help achieve pregnancy. This approach is used when a medical, genetic, or biological barrier prevents conception using one’s own eggs or sperm.
Common reasons for using donor gametes include:
Diminished or absent ovarian function
Premature ovarian insufficiency
Age-related decline in egg quality
Severe male factor infertility
Genetic conditions where using own gametes is not recommended
Same-sex couples
Single individuals
After cancer treatment or surgery affecting fertility
Types of Donors
Known Donors
Friends, relatives, or someone within your personal network.
Clinic-Recruited or Overseas Donors
In Australia, donors cannot be anonymous. Their identity must be accessible to donor-conceived individuals once they turn 18 (NHMRC, ART Act). Dr Rebecca works with international donor banks to allow better access for people needing donor eggs or sperm.
Egg Donation
Egg donation helps individuals or couples conceive when using their own eggs is not possible or recommended.
Who May Benefit from Donor Eggs
Diminished ovarian reserve or premature ovarian insufficiency
Age-related fertility decline (typically >40–43 years)
Repeated IVF failure due to egg quality
Known genetic conditions
Surgical menopause
Post-chemotherapy or radiation

Psychological counselling for donor + recipient
Medical and genetic screening of the donor
Legal consent and mandatory counselling
Donor ovarian stimulation and egg collection
Fertilisation with recipient’s partner sperm or donor sperm

We ensure all donors meet strict screening criteria for safety, wellbeing, and suitability.
Sperm Donation
Sperm donation allows conception when sperm quality or availability prevents natural conception.
Who May Benefit from Donor Sperm
Severe male factor infertility
Azoospermia (no sperm)
Genetic conditions carried by the male partner

Ethical & Legal Considerations in Australia
We strictly follow:
NHMRC Ethical Guidelines (2017)
State based legislation and ART acts.
RTAC accreditation standards
Key Principles
No anonymous donation
Donor-conceived individuals have the right to access identifying donor information from age 18
Mandatory counselling for all donors and recipients
Informed, voluntary consent is essential
Limits on the number of families per donor (state-specific - Victoria has a 10 family limit world-wide, NSW has a 5 family limit)Clinics must securely store donor records for 20+ years
These safeguards protect donors, recipients, and donor-conceived children.
